Set in Mysuru, Karnataka, Chamundeshwari Temple, Mysore is dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari (Chamundi), a fierce form of Shakti/Durga; worshipped as the tutelary (guardian) deity of the Mysore Wodeyar royal family. It is also known as Sri Chamundeshwari Temple, Chamundi Hill Temple.

The temple is venerated as one of the Shakti Peethas (also called Krouncha Pitha) associated with Goddess Sati, and it is closely tied to local mythology in which Goddess Chamundeshwari (as Durga) is said to have slain the demon king Mahishasura, after whom Mysuru is named. The original shrine atop Chamundi Hill is attributed to the Hoysala kings in the 12th century, with the temple's tower added by Vijayanagara-era patronage in the 17th century.

Karnataka carries a distinct temple identity of its own: Vijayanagara grandeur at Hampi, Hoysala artistry at Belur, and living coastal shrines at Udupi, Kukke and Kollur, Karnataka is a museum of South Indian temple genius.
