Sringeri Sharada Temple, in Sringeri in Karnataka, is dedicated to Goddess Sharada (Sharadamba), an incarnation of Saraswati, goddess of knowledge and wisdom. It is also known as Sharadamba Temple, Sringeri Sharadamba Temple, Sringeri Sharada Peetham.
Sringeri Sharada Peetham is regarded as the first and southern of the four mathas established by Adi Shankaracharya to propagate Advaita Vedanta, making the Sharada Temple one of the most important pilgrimage and scholarly centers in Hindu tradition. The reigning Jagadguru of the matha is a highly revered spiritual authority across South India. Adi Shankaracharya is said to have founded the Sharada shrine in the 8th century CE and established Sringeri as the seat of the southern (Dakshinamnaya) matha, one of the four cardinal mathas he set up.
Karnataka carries a distinct temple identity of its own: Vijayanagara grandeur at Hampi, Hoysala artistry at Belur, and living coastal shrines at Udupi, Kukke and Kollur, Karnataka is a museum of South Indian temple genius.

History and architecture
Architecture
Dravidian style temple architecture; the original standing sandalwood idol installed by Adi Shankaracharya is now housed in the adjoining Vidyashankara Temple, while a seated gold idol of Sharadamba installed in the 14th century by the Vijayanagara rulers is worshipped in the main sanctum
History
Adi Shankaracharya is said to have founded the Sharada shrine in the 8th century CE and established Sringeri as the seat of the southern (Dakshinamnaya) matha, one of the four cardinal mathas he set up. His disciple Sureshwaracharya became the first pontiff of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham. The temple grew in scale and stature under the patronage of the Vijayanagara Empire, with the 12th Jagadguru Sri Vidyaranya credited with transforming the original shrine into a larger stone structure and installing a gold image of the goddess.
