What is Angarki Chaturthi?

Angarki Chaturthi is another name for Angarak Sankashti Chaturthi. It is a Sankashti Chaturthi that falls on a Tuesday.

The Trust's Important Dates page lists three in 2026: 6 January, 5 May and 29 September. It lists no more in 2026.

What do newspapers say about the crowds?

In 2019 the Free Press Journal wrote that devotees lined up from Monday midnight. It quoted the Trust, which expected 10 to 12 lakh devotees. That was a forecast, not a count for a normal day.

In June 2024 the same paper said the temple set up separate lines for women, mukh darshan and a special line. It said devotees would arrive after midnight.

On 6 January 2026 the paper reported that thousands queued from early morning outside the temple.

When does the temple restrict entry?

On Sankashti Chaturthi, darshan starts at 4:30 AM. The door closes about 90 minutes before moonrise for pooja and aarti, so darshan is from far then, says the schedule.

On Vinayaki Chaturthi, devotees cannot enter the main temple area from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM. That time is for the Maha Abhishekha.

What could you do?

If you want fewer people, you could pick a day that is not a Tuesday or a Chaturthi. The Trust does not promise that any day is quiet.

The Trust's notice on its Live Darshan page asks three things. Keep your phone switched off before you enter. Dress modestly. Leave your footwear at the stand outside.
