History and architecture
Architecture
Traditional stone temple built according to Vastu Shastra principles, with 16 sacred shrine spaces across an 11,000 square foot structure
History
A group of Hindu practitioners formed the Hindu Temple and Cultural Society of USA Inc. (HTCS) in 1989 and purchased land in Bridgewater, New Jersey in February 1992 to build a traditional stone temple. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in 1995, and a stone laying ceremony was conducted in May 1996 by Chinna Jeeyar Swami, with construction following Vastu Shastra principles. The consecration ceremony was completed and the temple inaugurated in 1998. Between 2004 and 2009 the temple pursued an expansion that faced a five year legal battle before a scaled down version was approved.
