Bhaktavatsala Perumal Temple, in Thirukannamangai in Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to Bhaktavatsala Perumal (Vishnu) with consort Abhishekavalli. It is also known as Thirukannamangai Divya Desam.
The temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams, the Vishnu temples glorified in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham composed by the Alvar poet saints. It is one of the five Panchakanna (Krishnaranya) Kshetrams, a group of Krishna associated Divya Desams in the region that also includes Thirukannangudi, Kabisthalam, Thirukannapuram, and Thirukkovilur. According to temple legend, Goddess Lakshmi performed penance at this site and married Vishnu, receiving her Pattabhishekam (coronation) as his chief consort here, which is how she came to be known as Abhishekavalli.
Tamil Nadu carries a distinct temple identity of its own: Land of towering gopurams and living Dravidian temple traditions, from the Chola masterpieces to the great Pancha Bhoota Sthalas.
