History and architecture
History
The temple's name and legend are linked to the Peetha Nirnaya Tantra, which lists it as the Trisrota Shakti Peetha on the banks of the Teesta river. According to the temple's mythology, Goddess Parameshwari transformed into a giant bee (bhramari) along with a swarm of bees to protect the wives of the devas from a demon, tearing into the demons' bodies; she came to be known as Bhramari Devi, the protector, after this episode.
