In Triolet, Mauritius, Maheswarnath Mandir is a shrine to Shiva, worshipped as Maheshwarnath, with shrines also to Durga and Krishna/Jagannath. It is also known as Grand Shivala, Shivala of Triolet.
The largest and one of the oldest Hindu temples in Mauritius, and considered the island's most revered Shiva temple. It is historically linked to the founding, in 1898, of the annual Maha Shivaratri pilgrimage to Ganga Talao, one of Mauritius's most important Hindu traditions. Founded by Pandit Shri Sanjibonlall Ramsoondur, who arrived in Mauritius from Calcutta in 1866, having origins in the Odisha region of India.
Mauritius carries a distinct temple identity of its own: Home to Ganga Talao, the crater lake at the centre of the island's largest annual Hindu pilgrimage.

History
Founded by Pandit Shri Sanjibonlall Ramsoondur, who arrived in Mauritius from Calcutta in 1866, having origins in the Odisha region of India. Construction of the temple took place from 1888 to 1891, on the site of a former sugar factory; the main temple's height was designed to match the 90 foot chimney of the demolished factory. Pandit Sanjibonlall died in 1907. In 1898 he led the first pilgrimage from this temple to Ganga Talao (Grand Bassin) to bring back sacred water for Maha Shivaratri rituals, a journey now repeated annually by thousands of pilgrims.
