Jagdish Temple stands in Udaipur, Rajasthan, is a shrine to Lord Jagannath, worshipped as a form of Vishnu, in a black stone image. It is also known as Jagannath Rai Temple, Jagdish-ji.
A major Vishnu (Jagannath) temple of Udaipur and one of its best known landmarks beside the City Palace. Smaller shrines within the complex are dedicated to Ganesha, Surya, Shakti and Shiva. Its annual Rath Yatra is the temple's best known celebration. Maharana Jagat Singh I of Mewar had the temple built next to the royal palace, and it was completed in 1651.
Rajasthan carries a distinct temple identity of its own: Desert-state temples of devotion and marble artistry, from the rare Brahma shrine at Pushkar to the haveli worship of Shrinathji and the lace-like Jain carvings of Dilwara.

History and architecture
Architecture
Described by Incredible India as an Indo-Aryan style temple, and by Wikipedia as a fine example of the Maru-Gurjara style. It rises on a high terrace with a pillared mandapa, a sanctum and a tall spire, reached by a flight of 32 marble steps guarded by two stone elephants. A brass Garuda faces the sanctum, and the walls and pillars carry detailed sculpture of Vishnu's avatars and celestial figures.
History
Maharana Jagat Singh I of Mewar had the temple built next to the royal palace, and it was completed in 1651. It was first known as the temple of Jagannath Rai and is now commonly called Jagdish Temple. Worship has continued in the temple since that time, and it remains one of the most prominent landmarks of old Udaipur.
